Coach your team to business success

As a business owner with a big dream for success, when your leaders know what they need to do, have the skills needed and understand that it is their responsibility to do it, yet they still don’t, you and your business have a real challenge.  When you have shared the vision for the business with the team and received encouraging verbal support which in time you realize is all talk and very little or no action, is when you know that you need to do something.  The problem for most business owners and leaders is that they are not sure what that something is.

As a leader, when you recruit highly qualified team members, effectively and conscientiously share the vision for the business with them and supply all the physical resources they need to perform, it is perfectly natural, when you don’t know better, to expect top performance.  Maybe in the past that was so, but not these days.  Team members who are good at what they do, often are well aware of their potential value, and can develop some level of complacency.

It’s not that they stop working hard; which may have been easier to address.  What happens is they no longer pro-actively seek to do what is necessary to expand their thinking and strive towards continuous improvement.  The vision leaks, interest and critical thinking wane and before you know it, you and the team are stuck in day-to-day routines and the status quo that insidiously, over time derails the results you are working toward.

From where you sit, you can see your top team almost doomed to repeat the same mistakes, over and over again.  Years of experience turn into one year of experience multiplied over the years. My friend, this is when you should stop!  This is when you should realize that it is your responsibility as the leader to create a space within your business where your team has no choice but to improve.
